Dinis' first successful campaign was in 1948 when he was elected representative for the 3rd Bristol District as successor of his father, the late Jacinto F. Dinis. Attorney Dinis had been admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Federal Court, the U.S. tax court, the U.S. Military Court and the Massachusetts Supreme Court by this point.
Previously he was a city councilllor and a member of the State House of Representatives. While a member of the Senate he served on the Counties and Judiciary Commitees. He was also appointed counsel for the recess comission studying the Uniform Commercial Code.
On November 8, 1966, Dinis won the election for Southern Massachusetts District Attorney, and in 1968 was elected as Massachusetts District 10 representative for the Democratic Party.
After losing the election in 1970, Dinis pursued other projects, such as a aquiring the WJFD-FM radio station in 1975.
